It was nearly 2 years ago when we went away for a 2 week holiday that everything changed between us. I had been told that this holiday would make or break us, as a couple. At this point we had been 'back together' for just over a year, and our relationship was going from strength to strength.

When you live and breathe every moment with just one person for 17 days {yes we got an extra few days due to the ash cloud-thank you} it really does change how you feel about someone. The holiday was a breeze. We grew together as a couple and for the first time I could really see a future with this boy. Away from the hassles of work, social commitments and travelling to see each other, we were 100% focused on each other and with no distractions. I fully understand that this could have been a disaster, but you do really learn so much more about each other when you're taken out of the real world.

My friends where right: this holiday was the making of us. We had unexpectedley gone to the next step in our relationship {as they say} and decided to start looking for a place together {and the rest is history...}

Does anyone have that defining moment in their relationship, either good or bad?

Did anyone else notice that big bright thing in the sky over the weekend? Again I think I over estimated how hot it actually was, I don't think I should of got the pumps out just yet, but it was actually a lovely day {for feb}

Brighton is so gorgeous when the sun is out, and a walk along the seafront is always in order. It's got me so excited for spring now {hurry, hurry]

how was everyones pancake day?

I literally couldn't wait to get started, so I got up at 6.30 and prepared pancakes for breakfast. Seriously one off the best ways to get you out of bed in the morning and to get your day started. I swear Si and I didn't even say a word to each other until we had scoffed it all down. We went for American pancakes, and although they might not look that pretty they taste A-MAZING. Check the recipe out here, and promise me that we should eat pancakes more often and not just once a year.
Who cheated then and bought a ready-made mix? or did you all make your own?

This week just keeps getting better and better {apart from that little thing called work that just happens to crop up on a daily basis, cruelly taking up the majority of my day and ruining my lay ins *sigh*} but we have been making up for it in the evenings. First my amazing Valentines evening and the fact that I booked half a day off work to spend with Si, which really was just an excuse so I could use my new teapot {yes, an old school teapot with a spout, how could anyone not be impressed by that? okay only me then}
Moving on...

So last night we went to the amazing Ben Howard concert at a wonderful intimate venue in Brighton. To be honest I could have stayed at home and listened to my album, as I couldn't see him at all {thanks tall man, standing right in my face} and he sounded EXACTLY like the record. Okay, so obviously it was a million times better than staying at home, like a loser in my onesie, listening to the album, sipping on my warm ribena, in fact I was at a gig, a cool gig at that. I had a cider in my hand, and an annoying girl behind me that persisted in stating how much she loves him in a 'OMG, I love Justin Bieber, he is a god, ahhhh, marry me, ahhhhh' style every 5 minutes. So all in all, it beats the sofa at home.

p.s yes, I am in desperate need to get my roots done *ashamed face*

I really did have one of the best days yesterday, it was also our 3 year anniversary, so really that's what we were celebrating. We have never really done a lot in the past, last year consisted of a trip to Wickes to purchase installation {Si is ever the romantic} as we were in the middle of refurbishing our house, so to be honest I wasn't holding out much hope. But I had a fantastic day, filled with love and laughs. Si took me out as a surprise to a gorgeous, yet expensive restaurant in Brighton called Havana, and I really did have the best day ever.

So I toast these past 3 years together as the best years of my life, and I look forward to all our adventures together in the future.

So, last month when I sat there nursing my 'food baby' from the HUGE amounts of Chinese takeaway we ate to celebrate the year of the dragon {a cunning plan I know} I stated that I would not have another Chinese until the next new year. Well I am ashamed to say that after much persuasion {or none in this case} that I shamelessly caved in and devoured vast amounts of food with the girls {hello, return of the food baby} it was perfection.

Also, much to my embarrassment I staged my first mini photo-shoot in the wonderful scenic surroundings, off my back garden. Yes, I was nervous and very cautious off my nosey neighbours, but oh well. I have a plan in place for a big fashion segment in the month of March, so keep posted for more info.

I spent the weekend in London with my lovely jubbly friends for 'Harriet's' Birthday. We drank loads, reminisced, sang a lot, gossiped, ate loads and generally had a fantastic time together.

AND IT SNOWED. YIPPEE!

Being Brightonborn and bred you would of thought I had covered all grounds, and been to mostplaces. Wrong. It is one of my resolutions to explore Brighton more, and findhidden treasures to share. I recently went to a lovely little cafe in the heartof Brighton, one I had heard of before, and thought I need to try this out. Itgoes by the name of ‘The Mock Turtle’ based in a prominent restaurant positionit sits tucked away in a side alley for people to stumble across.

Quaint, vintageand small where my first impressions {if you have a buggy then this would be ano, no}

You are greetedwith mountains of cakes, mish mash furniture and thousands of pieces of crockery{which kind of reminds me of my childhood spent in Holland}

The menu waslittle confusing. There was loadssss to choose from. What threw me werethe sandwich choices; cheese, cheese and onion, cheese and tomato. Not muchvariety really, so we went for the afternoon tea with scones. It was perfect.

And the bestthing? It only came to about 7 quid for both of us.

So get yourscone on and head down to ‘The Mock Turtle’ for some afternoon delights.

Okay. So the other day I was wasting my day {as usual} scrolling through Pinterst and I came across an A-MAZING idea, and I had to grab it in my little internet mits. I'm not sure where the original idea came from, but I found my inspiration from here

Now I am not into Valentine's day at all {hello money grabbing companies} but V day also happens to be my anniversary, so in some way I do like to get involved.

This gift is extremely personal, easy to make and actually very cheap. So here is what you need to make the cutest gift, like, ever. {and it can work both ways boys}

ingredients-

pack of standard playing cards {or if your feeling fancy and can be bothered to wait for delivery order these vintage deck of cards}

Ribbon or cord

Stickers or jewels

Card

computer/printer

So to start off with you need to think of 52 reasons way you love your man or lady. {Trust me, when you're in the flow it comes naturally}

It is up to you how you would like to present your words, either by hand or printed by the computer. I went for the computer {due to my nonexistent calligraphy skills} and chose the font Bradley HandITC, obviously you can choose whatever you please. These then need to be printed on card {paper would be okay, but the finish would not be as good}

Once you have printed the words, you need to cut the card to fit over the picture on the card.

You then need to decorate the card. I have gone with simple star stickers {they cost 50p}

You then need to hole punch the cards. I have done this by doing a few at a time, and using the original card as a template for the holes. {use a clip to hold the cards in place}

You are then left to thread your ribbon or cord through the holes to hold the cards together.

Voila. Your very own personal V day pressie.

Excuse me for my very early posting on my holiday wish list, but as I have my holiday booked already, all I find myself doing is wishing the next few months away, by looking endlessly at summer outfits and previous holiday photos. Today all I want to be is back in the Dominican Republic, sunbathing all day, reading books, eating burgers on the beach, drinking strawberry Daiquiris, playing table tennis, waking up late, ordering room service, swimming with Mary the dolphin and eating pizza by sunset in our cabana all without a care in the world.

So the weekend is over. ALREADY? time does fly when you're having fun! I had one of the best weekends for a while, and what better way than to capture it all with instagram.

On Saturday after a stroll through town we FINALLY found somewhere to eat {okay so I am ultra fussy, sorry Si}

I popped home quickly to see the parents...and of course to see my little doggy pudding.

The girls came round Saturday night for pizza, cookies and old films.

We were up early Sunday morning for a cooked brekkie, and then we headed into town to be tourists for the day, and for more tea and scones.

I became a cool dude.

We strolled round all the shops and found some new records

and I annoyed Si {as usual}

It's not often I have company for lunch. Well let's say hardly ever. Sometimes my mum meets me, and once in a very blue moon Si gets off work early and comes and meets me for a good old natter. Well today was that day and it was a sure fire way to put a huge smile on my face that's for sure.

BTW how good does the millionaire shortbread look? Trust me, it went down a treat.

We also got a few bits for the home and purchased some blackboard paint to use in our hallway, so we can doodle on the walls. Fun ey?

Not much more to say on the matter really, apart from , hurry up next lunch date.

Travel Series: Las Vegas

Nearly a year ago now we jetted over to Las Vegas, for what unquestionably has to be the best holiday EVER!

I am just sharing a few of my photos for myself personally and to show you the wonder that is Las Vegas. We only spent 4 nights there, but I am itching to return with friends and in high season to experience the day time antics in full. We managed to walk ourselves into the ground due to the sheer size of all the hotels, but made sure we caught a few shows. Of course the legendary Cirque Du soleil, and my favourite musical, The Lion King.

Las Vegas really is a big kid's playground, and it's true what they say, you really do enter a different world, perfect to forget about the real world for just a few short days.

Has anyone else been to the wonder of Vegas? What do you all think?

He made me a den. An actual den, with sheets, pillows, duvets and sparkly lights. I think I have been going on about making one, for, I don't know, maybe years, but I never thought he would actually make me one as a surprise. Extra man points for Si this week. I am the ultimate big kid, and playing and chilling in my own private den all evening has made my week. Now if only we could keep it...

This weekend our householdconsisted of cleaning, chilling, watching box sets, eating {kind of} healthyand watching more box sets. Our weekends will be filled with this until we goto Australia, as we have to get our little saving hats on. Not that I’m complaining,long lie ins, eggs for breakfasts, walks along the seafronts, and more 'The OC'than you can lay your hands on. Journal writing, scrap books and reading isalready on the cards and for once I am enjoying quality time with Si, my friendsand finally putting the finishing decorative pieces to my lovely home.

Bringing in the new year

Just a fewlovely photos from New Years Eve. This leads me nicely on to the year ahead,and what I have planned for it. This year more than ever I am thinking aheadand wanting to make the most of every moment, with friends, family and ofcourse Si. To go forward with a positive attitude, to take chances and to sayYes more. Point is, I want to achieve great things this year, it may not be inmy career, but I want to go into 2013 with my head held high, and to havesucceeded in my goals.
Well thatkind of got serious...So here is to 2012 and my resolutions.

BeStrong - work out 3-5 timesa week, and to train hard for my first Marathon in April
BeHealthy - Drink lessalcohol (hello January detox) and eat more fruit
BeSmart - start a journal,and write down all thoughts, feelings and goals
Behappy - make more effortwith friends, and to have regular and fun date nights with Si.
Bemotivated - to get out ofbed early, and have a quick work out, and have breakfast with Si regularly.

How did everyone bring in the new year? After much debate we decided to stay in with a few friends. We danced, sang, chatted and played games until the countdown, then watched in delight at the spectacular London fireworks on the TV. Bringing in the new year with Si and my closest friends in my new home was perfect. Same again next year please.

A look back on 2011...

Well 2011 you have been good to me. What a year it has been. Most definitely the best year of my life {so far} so here is a quick look back...

We bought in the New Year dressed as Felicity shagwell and Austin Powers at our house party with friends and took the first stroll of the New Year at the Cuckmere River in Seaford, where we took part in an impromptu photo shoot for the ‘Next’ winter collection {or so we thought}

We tried out a fish pedicure for the first time {courtesy of Harriet’s salon} but mostly laid low as at the end of the month we got the keys for our first home together. The demolition and refurbishment then began.

We were still working extremely hard through February to get the house in a state to live in. Si was working all day {in his normal job} and all evenings and weekend to get it ready. At this stage we had stripped the whole entire house, re-wired all the rooms, knocked down walls, moved walls, installed a door and window and stripped all plaster of the walls, exhausting work.

We managed toslip away one day to the 02 in London to watch Usher in concert, and enjoyed awell deserved Wagamamas and chill out cinema session.
Sarah turned 21,and we celebrated our 'back together' 2 year anniversary.

Into March we were still working hard, with the kitchen taking shape and the plastering imminent, we were finally getting nearer to moving in.

We then jetted of on a pre-booked holiday to New York and Las Vegas. SUCH a good holiday.

I went to the 02 for the second time to watch the one and only Justin Bieber {don’t ask} and celebrated Si’s nan’s 85^th birthday. I also joined the gym, and had my first Jazz club experience.

In April we saw Les Miserable in the West End, for the first time, and I discovered my love for the Foo fighters. We also had a family gathering to celebrate 10 years since my Grandads passing.

We also celebrated the 4 April birthdays, Lauren, Hayley, Becky and MINE, with a meal and night out.

The time had finally come, and Si and I could finally move in. We celebrated with our favourite home cooked meal and wine, spag bowl, of course. The month was rounded off with the celebration of the Royal Wedding. I hosted an all day tea party with the girls.

May was...well May was nonexistent according to my diary and camera. I seem to have not taken one photo, or written one thing to do, in the whole entire May. Now all I can assume is that we were enjoying living in the new house so much, that nothing else mattered?? I also didn’t have a blog, so picture taking wasn’t the most important thing on my list. Good job June was a busy month.

So June was a tad busier than May. The sun finally arrived in Brighton, meaning strolls and drinks along the seafront. We hopped on the train to London to‘rock’ out to The Kings of Leon, in Hyde Park {yes, Si is very drunk, we both where}I then headed to the party Island of Ibiza for Katie’s Hen do, which was followed by her beautiful country wedding

July brought many more sunset strolls along the seafront, and we acted like tourists, and had fun on the pier. We worked hard on trying to complete our garden, and spent time finding pieces for our home. We also spent an evening out in a 1920’s ballroom, sipping wine and watching the burlesque entertainment.

In August we went to our first ever festival {V Festival} and watched the delights of Eminem, Rihanna, Plan B and the Arctic Monkeys. {I don’t think it was really Si’s thing} We finally held our house warming, with friends in the garden and joined another gym.

The girls and I spent the day mooching around Notting Hill Carnival , and partied the night away in Central London.

And of course, I started this little blog {yey}

We started the month by hopping on the Eurostar for a weekend break in romantic Paris. Weeks later we enjoyed a relaxing break with my parents to Centre Parcs {thank-you} Katy welcomed baby Rainbeau into the world, and I humiliated myself auditioning for Total Wipeout {I didn’t even get through}

In October we went to afew gigs, comedy nights and meals outs. Becky brought little Freddie into theworld {finally} and we celebrated Halloween. I attended my second weddingreception of the year, and Si and I booked our flights to Oz for 2012 {excited}

In November the marathontraining started, and we baked delicious goods. I met the girls for afternoontea for Zoeys birthday, and the long awaited Twilight film came out. We endedthe month with a surprise trip to Edinburgh for Si’s birthday.

We got to get ourfirst real tree for Christmas, and spent all night decorating. To get furtherin the Christmas spirit, we headed off to Oslo for the weekend. We spent Christmas at both families (yes I got 2 Christmas dinners) and did some decorating in the house. The year was topped off celebrating our friends wedding in the country.

Now I can't wait to see what next year brings...

Romeo and Juliet

I got dragged along to the Ballet last night by my Mother dear. It's not really my thing, but you can't pass up a free ticket now can you! For one I didn't really understand what was going on. I kept imagining Leo Dicaprio, and made me realise I do need to buy the film on DVD, like how good is that film. So would I recommend 'The Ballet' Well why not, you have to go once in your life, but I think I will save my next trip for when I have more wrinkles :)

Travel series: Oslo

Last week we made a cheap butslightly long Journey to the festive capital Oslo {which is in Norway I havefound myself explaining} I managed to find some ridiculously cheap flights toOslo, but soon discovered when we got there that it is extremely expensive, Soexpensive it has the honour of winning ‘the world’s most expensive city’ lastyear.

We did have a slight clue on price,and only took a small amount anyway, and just hoped we could get by on nonextravagant meals, and not much alcohol. Well only one glass of wine wasconsumed whilst I was there, but I enjoyed not drinking to be honest. Wechilled out massively in our beautiful room {with our Mac} and took strollsacross the city, jumping into numerous coffee shops, markets and shops to keepout of the cold. We were lucky to get a few hours of snow whilst we wherethere, but thankfully it was unseasonably warm for December {minus 2} so we gotof lucky.

If anyone is thinking of going, IREALLY recommend. As I said it is expensive {our 2 McDonalds Big Mac meals cameto £20 quid, and a small glass of wine is £8} but it is a beautiful city, setin its traditional ways, and although there is plenty of shop chains andrestaurants around, they are not splashed in your faces and it isn’t verycommercial. For the time of year we went, you would expect to get pushed andshoved with the heaves of Christmas Shoppers, not in Oslo, it was quiet,tranquil and pleasant and it allowed us to completely relax for the weekend.What better way to end the holiday than watching the snow fall silentlyoutside, whilst sitting by a raging fire in a quiet Norwegian bar, sipping on aglass of wine, chatting away whilst mellow Christmas music plays in thebackground. Heaven a tell you. Heaven.

Travel Series: Edinburgh

So they other week I surprisedSi, and took him away to Edinburgh for the weekend to celebrate his 24^thbirthday. We spent a cold and blustery few days checking out all the museums,walking around the shops and indulging in plentiful food and drink. It was lovelyto get away for the weekend, and to leave all our work troubles behind {not that I really have any} I alsogot to meet up with some of my family who live in Edinburgh (I am half Scottishyou see) and took the first opportunity to use our new video camera {whichactually involves a lot of drunk ramblings, and Si eating his birthday cake at1am in the morning}

It is such a short flight,and a very reasonable price if you get it booked up early {I only paid £100return for both of us} and it’s actually nice to be able to carry on usingBritish currency, instead of all the hassle to change currencies {yawn}

I am sure I will bevisiting again soon, and maybe next time for the world renowned comedyfestival...

So the lovely Laura over at keepinghealthygettingstylishcame up with a lovely little idea to get us all into the spirit ofChristmas. A Blogger Secret Santa ofcourse. A simple idea of registering your details {with Laura} and then shegives you a random blogger to buy for, and then a random blogger will buy foryou.
I sent off my little package last week {to Leigh} and I received my{slightly larger} package this weekend. I was excited to see what I hadreceived, as I couldn’t even remember what I had written down for my likes anddislikes {I do remember not being very helpful though}
I opened the box in anticipation and was greeted with loads ofbeautifully wrapped presents {I instantly thought how rubbish my present hasbeen} I discovered my package was from Annette over at cookiecrumbsandcarrotsticks and was delighted to see that she was anew blogger too. I couldn’t wait any longer;I mean I couldn’t wait at all. Back at home we used to put the tree up 2 weeksbefore Christmas, so that’s what I had in my head. But then I remembered, I amin my own place now, so technically I can do what I want. So I made thedecision to go out and buy my first REAL tree {which took a lot of persuasionand puppy eyes with Si} and spent all night decorating the tree with my 220 baubles{yes I went slightly mad} Oh and might I add I done this all whilst watchingLove Actually {melt} let’s just hope the tree lasts until the big day.

I’m back {did you realise I had even gone?} I have returned from a quick weekend break to Edinburgh for Si’s birthday. I woke him up at 4.30am Saturday morning with a cup of coffee and a cheeky smile, to surprise him. I only told him where we were going when we reached the airport. {I told you I am a good girlfriend} So we spent the weekend strolling around the shops, checking out all the pubs, and eating far too much. All in all I think Si enjoyed his 24^th birthday, I know I did. The only problem is coming back to reality. I can’t believe just one day off, sets you completely of track. But now that we are back the Christmas shopping and New Years Eve planning can commence...

What better way to spend a Thursday night than an evening stroll through the Brighton Lanes, taking in the pretty Christmas lights, and popping into the cute shops open late? We stumbled across a late night Christmas opening at Jack Wills and indulged in free cupcakes and real ale, whilst wishing we had the money to splash out on some new winter woollies. It’s the first time I have been into town since the lights have been put up, and there is no place more magical than Christmas in the Lanes. Last stop had to be, a cosy, warm pub to kick back around the log fire. Bliss.

What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, than having a bake-off?!?!
As we were invited round the rents for a roast the following day, we decided to make dessert as our contribution. Si was intent on making Tiramisu {which I don’t like} and I fancied making a cherry cheesecake. So we got our baking hats on, made a lot of mess, and whipped up some tasty treats. It was Si’s first baking experience, and I think he liked it. Can’t wait for the next one...

Travel series: New York

As my little blog didn’t exist at the beginning of the year, I never got the chance to post about my Trip to New York. So I am sharing some of my favourite photos from our 3 day trip {we then flew on to Las Vegas, so I have more pics to come}

When we left for our travels, we were in the middle of refurbishing our house, so it was amazing to leave it all behind and get away for the week. It was the most tiring holiday I have ever been on and I don’t think I have ever walked so much in my life. But it was unquestionably the best holiday I have ever been on {so far} and I can’t wait to explore the rest of America.

highs and lows

Afternoon tea, I just can’t get enough of it. We decided to be civilised and grown up {cough cough} and celebrated Zoey’s 24^th with a trip to The Grand Hotel, along Brighton seafront. We also had baby Freddie in tow, for his first {of many} girlie gatherings. The mellow sounds of the piano played in the background, whilst we caught up on the gossip, sipped tea and ate bundles of cakes. I had just about got over my awful hangover from the night before, so scoffed down plenty of cucumber sandwiches and scones.

Low

No Sunday run for me this weekend though {slaps wrist} I was incredibly hung-over and the thought of eating, let alone moving was enough to make me feel sick. I blame the restaurant/bar we ate in the night before. No seriously I do. I was going to post a review about the evening’s meal etc, but it was so terrible, so I will post a quick rant. We ate in Madame Geisha, down the lanes in Brighton.

We did bear in mind we booked under a Groupon voucher, but, you still expect your food to be cooked, right? After waiting a time for our starters, they brought us over a complimentary cocktail {our 3^rd of the night} due to the delay in our food. When our mains finally came out, we took a few bites, and then I spotted a huge piece of pink chicken in my Thai green curry. We noticed Si’s meal was the same, so we immediately sent them back {the first time I have ever had to do that in my life} round 2 came. Pink again. We couldn’t actually believe it, so we refused to have the food or anything else for that matter {bear in mind, I wouldn’t normally say boo to a goose, as I don’t like confrontation or complaining} so they obliged and took the food away. We had a problem though, normally you would just not pay for the food, but we had already paid via Groupon. So we reached a solution that we would swap the food for alcohol, and ended up partying in the bar/club section with free cocktails, shots and bottles of wine, ON AN EMTPY STOMACH. Urrrghhhhh, I did not feel good when I got home or in the morning. So, yes I do blame the restaurant {you believe me right?} I leave you with some life advice that I hope you carry with you from now on...

1. DON’T eat at Madame Geisha, Brighton

2. DON’T drink on an empty stomach {I can’t believe no one ever told me before}

run, jog, walk

Nearly my second week of marathon training done {phew, only 22 to go} is it wrong to say I am slightly enjoying it? Yer, I suppose it is, especially as the runs are only short at the moment. We are only doing a couple of 3 mile runs in the week, and a longer run {currently 6/7 miles} at the weekend. Poor Si, I keep telling him to keep going, but he has to keep waiting for me wheezing away, and complaining about my painful ears {seriously I can’t be the only person on the planet that suffers from terrible earache from the cold and the wind whilst running? Am I?} I fear that for the next 5 months are lives are going to just be taken up by running, running and more running. Our runs will have to be longer, meaning more time out of our precious Sundays. I still haven’t decided if I am running for a charity yet, as we do also hope to cycle the London to Paris bike ride next year, {oh dear, I definatley just put that in print} so we may save donations for that event.

Who knows?

Anyway bring on the weekend, for more tea and scones, birthday gatherings, baby holding, meals out and, yes more running. Peace out.

Tea and Scones anyone?

So as I stated in my earlier post, my Sunday was just awesome. Yes, I also stick by my statement even though I completed my first 6.5 mile run in the morning {go meeee} the afternoon was filled with an afternoon country outing to visit Pooh bridge. Now, bear in mind we have a week of Marathon training behind us, and a 6 miler done that exact morning, our legs weren’t feeling the best, so we weren’t too happy when we found ourselves lost, with no idea where the sodding bridge was. We ended up walking a couple of miles regardless of seeing any of the Winnie the Pooh sights. We gave up as it was getting darker and ended up in Piglets cafe indulging in some good old tea and scones.

We ended the day with a homemade roast and a CSI Miami marathon, where I informed Si our child will now bear the middle name of Horatio {aka,Legend}

p.s Si promised to take me back one day to find Pooh Bridge and finally play Pooh sticks.

Monday morning blues

So we finally have Halloween and bonfire night out the way, which can only mean one thing...SANTA IS COMING!!! I know I have already mentioned the dreaded C word before, but I really am such a big kid at heart, and can honestly say I get so incredibly excited about the whole Christmas season! {I even bought my first Christmas decorations the other day *waves hands in the air un-controllably*} So if you must know {according to Santa on Twitter} there are only 48 sleeps to Christmas. Okay, okay I will stop babbling about Christmas {for now} but seriously, is there anyone else as excited as me. I promise I am really a grown up. {: l }

So anyway...the Monday blues are kicking in like clockwork, why are Mondays so

d-e-p-r-e-s-s-i-n-g, like who invented Mondays? Uhhhh.

How was every ones weekend?

Mine was fannytastic. I got Si allll to myself for the whole of Sunday {yey} Unfortunately he was working on Saturday, but I came up trumps and gained some important brownie points by clearing the remainder of crap from our garden {which took me all day, may I add} and I whipped up the first Toad in the hole of the year {double brownie points for me} {I really am getting good at the housewife thing you know, do you reckon they hold annual housewife competitions? Kind of like the x factor come Strictly come master chef all rolled into one, with boot camp rounds and maybe 1 minute rounds to impress the judges with your washing up skills {etc, etc} It could be held in Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s river cottage with, Linda Barker, Kim {off of Kim and Aggie} and Gary Rhodes as judges. The prize could involve a year’s free shopping at Morrison’s or something, and maybe even a slot on This Morning with old Phil and Holly. I’m sure that would work? Yer?}

So Saturday night we braved the cold and lit the sparklers for a good old laugh in the garden. Can you tell we attempted to write our names...?

Travel Series: Paris

Iife in a day

So, I’ve just watched the masterpiece ‘Life in a day’ produced by Ridley Scott. Have any of you heard of it?

It is based on videos submitted to YouTube from 24^th July 2010. They have taken videos from people all around the world and constructed a wonderful feature length movie. I initially wanted to go and watch it in the cinema, but only selected cinemas where showing it. I have since stumbled across it on YouTube {where else} and watched the full film.

‘Life in a day’ is an intimate and deeply moving odyssey through the everyday business of human life. I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I felt anger, I felt sad but most of all I felt liberated. Although I am not naive, it is so moving and extraordinary to delve into other people’s lives and to see how they live. Some are less fortunate, but to still see they are happy, and that it is not the materialistic things in life that should make you content. Every emotion is triggered, and it really makes you think of your own life, and to appreciate everything in it, and to live life to the full {something I like to do anyway}

So take some time out {1 ½ hours} sit back with a cup of tea, and a tissue {or 2} and watch the astonishing stories, some normal, some unusual, some sad, and some happy, unfold.

As coincidence might have it, I do believe it is also showing on BBC 2 tonight at 9pm. So please, have a watch, and let me know what you think??

Best of the weekend

My ‘life this week’ has changed a little {I hope you don’t mind} I have posted a few snaps from over the weekend. My highlight has to be meeting little Freddie for the first time {the first baby in our group, we definitely are growing up} so I must add a HUGE congrats to mummy Becky, we are all so very proud, and perhaps a tad broody {shhhh, don’t tell Si}

Of course Halloween occurred {yes, I know you have probably forgotten about that now, and all you are thinking about is Christmas, I know I am} Si and I got into the spirit, and I for filled a definite fantasy, as we dressed up as Harry Potter and Hermione {do you like?}

The weekend was topped off with a visit to BINTM {courtesy of Rachel Phipps} at the Excel in London. To be honest, it’s not really my thing, but I took my very enthusiastic mate Harriet {aka my Harry Potter partner in crime} and strolled through the exhibition and stalls for the afternoon. Nothing beats a road trip with friends.

Top five {autumn addition}

As summer has officially ended {as of yesterday} and technically we are heavily into autumn, I wanted to share some of my favourite things that I look forward to this season.

1. Being able to accessorise, and wrap up with a scarf.

2. I never drink tea in the summer, so when the temperature drops the first thing I want to do is snuggle with a cup of tea.

3. It’s time for Halloween, and to carve the Pumpkins {see one I made earlier}

4. Now the clocks have gone back, we enjoy lighter mornings for a while. No excuse to get up late then?

5. The colours. Oh the colours. There is nothing better than the warm reds/greens/yellows in the leaves and trees.

I was left all on my lonesome on Friday whilst Si did some private work. So I played the {doting} housewife and made dinner and a homemade bonofee pie. {yey, brownie points for moi} but to also say thank-you to Si for working so hard at the moment. {I love him}

These shoes have alot of walking to do

My Lethargic start to winter seems to be continuing, and boy do I love it. I have definitely decided that I am like a squirrel, and need to hibernate over winter. In the Summer I want to make the most of the weather and always have something on the go, but all I want to do now, is cuddle up on the sofa with Si, watch box sets and cook hot, stodgy food. There is no better feeling than shutting the curtains and wrapping up in a blanket. So anyway I got let of the hook for the 4^th time this week, and Si cooked a scrummy dinner of Macaroni and cheese {isn’t he the best} but I did insanely clear up as we went (I definitely have a slight cleaning problem, there is nothing wrong with that) I normally wouldn’t eat so many carbs in one week {I aim for only 1 pasta or pizza dish a week{ but as I am intent of getting into the full swing of winter, we sat in last night {instead of going to a pre-booked gig} and ate stuffed crust pizza dressed in our Pj’s. Seriously there is nothing better.

Next week it all changes though. The dreaded Marathon training starts. Yes, you heard correctly, MARATHON training. Me? Running? Seriously kill me know. I don’t know who’s bright idea that was {okay it was mine, I wanted to tick of something on my bucket list, FML} I have taken part in ALL sports, and actually was pretty good at most things, but long distance running? No way. It’s not for me. So if I actually get through it, alive, then you all owe me, big time. {FML}

So when I went to visit Lauren last weekend {and Bruno of course} we ventured out onto Northcote road {Clapham} to get some grub. The road is full with bars, restaurants and cafes, but not all the chains that you would normally expect, which was quite refreshing, as I normally end up in either Wagamamas or Pizza Express. So with no familiarity, and every cuisine at our fingertips, we ended up in a burger bar called Byron. As I now know {due to a quick googling session} Byron actually is a small chain based around London, but it was all new for me.

‘To do a simple thing well, and do it properly’ is how the food is described, and I wouldn’t second judge that decision. The menu is simple, so if you are like me and struggle to make a decision when the waitress takes your order, than this will be perfect for you.

We ordered Milkshakes, cheese-burgers, chips and mac and cheese on the side. {My tummy is literally rumbling at the thought of how good the burgers where}

The burger was cooked to perfection, the French fries where crispy, and the Mac and cheese, oh don’t even get me started on the Mac and cheese {drooling open mouthed-reminiscing} Best of all it only came to 15 smackers each.

Cheers to the weekend

So my ‘life this week according to my camera’ hasn’t really gone to plan, hence my previous post, regarding how lazy and melancholy we have felt all week long. I don’t think you would want to see pictures of piles of washing, and unmade beds. The only upside to this lazy start to winter is the arrival of mums homemade soup. I have taken two deliveries this week of sweet potato and carrot and leek soup. One word. Divine. Just what you need to warm your tosies.

So anyway the weekend arrived, to awake me from my soup coma, and thank god it arrived in style, offering food a plenty, catch ups, nights out and music.

After cleaning the house top to bottom {goodbye 3 hours of my life} and making lunch for Em and Zoey, I headed into town for an early dinner with some of the girls {Harriet, Zoey and Emily} Si, and a few boys from school {Andy, Jack s and Jack w} Was a nice little gathering/reunion, but as per usual Si and I left early, but this time we had an excuse, as Si was up early for another day of grafting. {Leaving me all lonely with no weekend mornings cuddlesL}

Dress/ New Look

My Sunday morning involved, washing, washing and more washing {goodbye 2 hours of my life} but I got the chance to go and visit Lauren in Clapham, as we where off to see Bruno Mars in concert at the Brixton Academy. Lauren did warn me that once you’ve been to that venue you won’t want to ever see an arena gig again. She was right. The venue is only a small capacity, and it feels so intimate, and up close with the artist. Bruno Mars was AMAZING {like literally amazing, so amazing, I am sitting here frantically googling when his next gig will be} apart from not being able to take my camera in {sigh} and missing the last train home to Brighton {sighhhh} it was one heck of a day, to top of an immense weekend.

We made Pumpkins

So, maybe it’s a little early, but I was so desperate to bring out my inner child {and Si’s} so I rushed to the shop and bought 2 pumpkins.

It was one of those nights that I actually noticed it was pitch black by 6.30pm, and I had the urge to do something wintery and fun. Si informed me that he can’t ever remember carving his own pumpkin, so I thought why not start our own traditions.

It brought back all the memories from when I was a kid, when Sar and I competed with who had the best pumpkin. Now that I am older and more creative {I am, I promise} we took some inspiration from the world wide web, and created these lean mean professional pumpkin machines {well, not machines, just hollowed out orange fruit, purely for decoration at the front of our house, yes?}

So, anyway...what do you think?

It's been one of those weeks...

It’s been one of those weeks so far that nothing much has been done. The washing is still in a pile in the spare room, the dishes are piling up in the sink, and the stairs need a good old hoover. I haven’t even ventured out much, only for the weekly food shop and an obligatory netball match {which we won, thank-you}

This week finally bought in the first chill of the season, and I even bought out last winter’s Mac {I will refuse to wear my thick jacket until at least December} I have changed from pumps to boots, and have started wearing my new knits to keep my cosy. The heating has finally been turned on {but only for a few hours at a time, we are not made of money you know!} and my slippers are on {okay, for those that know me, will know that the minute I step foot in the front door my slippers are straight on my feet, come summer or winter.} So with the change in climate I think it has just made me really nostalgic, and all I want to do is stay in and cuddle up with Si with a warm mug of ribena.

I think once this week of laziness is over, we will have to get back to finishing our house. We have given ourselves the deadline of Christmas to get it completely finished, but there are loads of little things to get finished {and many bigger things} I am finding it so hard to get motivated to finish our home, when it was so easy to start with. We were told, or should I say warned, that we should finish everything before moving in {as we were in the comfort of our parents while we refurbished} but we were SO desperate to move in after 3 months of refurbishments, that we just went for it, leaving all the little bits to do once we moved in. 6 months later we still haven’t finished {or hardly started} We have spent the summer holidaying, seeing friends, exploring Brighton, and generally enjoying living with each other, to worry about if the hall skirting is painted and glossed {yawn}

But now the evenings are drawing in, and the weekends are cold and rainy, now is the time to get back onto wagon and finish our baby off. We will do it.

Paris: Looking Up

Just over a month ago we visited Paris for the second time. I instantly fell in love with the city when Si took me for my 21^st birthday, and have always wanted to go back and I hope for it to be a place that I will forever visit. For anyone that has never been before, I highly recommend. We spent a lot of time just strolling the streets to see what we would stumble across. We ate gorgeous food, and drank rose wine a plenty. So I am sharing a few sightseeing photos from our short trip, and hope to share more soon.

Goodbye Sarah

The time has finally come, and my little sis Sarah has head out into the big wide world. We took her to Heathrow on Sunday night to wave her off to the other side of the world. I few tears were shed, as we don't know when we will see her again.

I have been a massive, I mean MASSIVE HP fan since I first read the second book.(Chamber of Secrets) Okay, technically I started in the wrong order, and It didn’t make complete sense at first. But after my mum realised she had given me the wrong one first, I re-read the first few books and I instantly fell in love with the magic and creativity of the stories. So when they announced the arrival of the Harry Potter films, I could barely contain my excitement. So over the last 10 years we have had the conclusion of the books and 8 feature films. For any ‘HP’ fan, we would instantly say how the films don’t do any justice to the books themselves, as there is just too much detail to be able to converse everything into the movie. But what we are all grateful for is that it brings this incredible magical world alive for us in front of our eyes.

So when I found out that in spring 2012, the world renowned Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden, home to the Harry Potter studios, would be opening for specialised tours, I WAS SO UTTERLY EXCITED. Like a little kid on Christmas day.

The website describes that, the unique walking tour takes you behind-the-scenes and showcases a huge array of beautiful sets, costumes and props. It also reveals some closely guarded secrets, including facts about the special effects and breathtaking animatronics that made these films so hugely popular all over the world. *OMG, SO EXCITED*

They don’t give much more away, other than the tour lasts approximately 3 hours, some parts of the tour are interactive and gives you a fully hands-on experience. *WOW *

So my tickets are now booked for April 8^th 2012 with my dearest Harriet (my Harry Potter partner in crime)

We will be there with our Gryffindor scarves and HP glasses.
I am counting down the days....literally.

'The Pierces'

So a couple of nights ago I managed to wangle some tickets to ‘The Pierces’ gig, down at the Concorde 2 (courtesy of Tony Marks, of The Juice FM new music show)

So this was my first trip to the Concorde, and my first ever intimate gig. I had heard of 'The Pierces' before, but I wasn’t over familiar with their songs. The description of their music draws comparison to Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Simon and Garfunkel. Now weirdly enough, I was listening to some old Fleetwood Mac, and Simon and Garfunkel on You tube the day before. It’s not something I would normally go and see, but I was pleasantly surprised. Their gorgeous melodies effortlessly create beautiful music, combined with a grittier, heavier edge. Although I didn’t know the words, I really got into the music, and enjoyed listening/watching something different. The support, MarcusFoster, was also amazing. His voice was simply stunning, and he had the audience captivated throughout his set. It was one of those nights that we could of stayed out all night enjoying the cider, but as we drove we called it a night after the gig. Overall I loved my impromptu evening out, and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the venue was. I will most defiantly be going back sometime soon.

An Aussie Farewell

My younger sister Sarah, is leaving me L she is finally flying the nest, but not just to a new flat in town, but to the other side of the world, to Sunny Australia. She goes in less than a week, and is off to meet 3 of her friends to travel down the East Coast for 6 weeks. She is then venturing off on her own, to work and travel for at least a year. I am so very proud of her, as she has always said she wanted to go, and has finally got the guts to go and do it on her own, and to change her life. I plan to visit sometime next year, and I can’t wait. So, on Sunday we held a mini family gathering to say farewell to the youngest Knight of the family (okay excluding the kids)

The Wedding Reception

So, Friday night I attended my second wedding reception of the year at the wonderful Buxted Park Hotel. It was my friend Hayley’s older brother’s wedding. So Harriet, Emily, Kat and I attended the evening’s festivities. They laid on a horse derby (like the one on the pier) and a photo booth. It looked like so much thought and consideration went into the wedding to make it so personal and touching. I wish them both a lifetime of happiness.

Last week all the girls (apart from Zoey, who was sunning herself in Madeira) got together for our good friend Kat’s 24^thbirthday. The night was perfectly timed for a last gathering before Kat jets across the world for her 3 month travelling trip. The night turned out to be a much civilised one, with a quick catch up curry, and a few cosmos after at a local bar. In the end it was only Kat, Lauren and I left to giggle the night away.

So. I have been thinking of the best way to document the comings and goings of my life through this blog. Yes, I can publish posts after I have been somewhere or done something. But what about all the little things that are missed out on a daily basis. The things that pass us by, and would never normally be good enough for an entire post. I don’t want these moments to go unparsed, so I have come up with the idea of a weekly blog post dedicated purely to pictures from the last week, however insignificant or silly it may seem at the time. This way I can gage my interests and activities over time. (I think food may take a prominent place though J )

Alas, here is the first post, aptly named, Life this week, according to my camera (a fancy name, I know)

So, whats this blogging thing about?

So about 2 weeks ago I started this blog, aptly named Suzi Knight (but I have since changed the name and format, incase you get confused) So far I have blogged about a few things I have done, and even shared a few of my favourite recipes and loves, but the question is, ‘What should I be blogging about?’ For some reason, I created this blog for the wrong reasons. To try and please others and to publish posts that I thought people would care about. I have learnt that this is the wrong way to go about it, and I should be posting out of enjoyment and for my own reasons.

So, if I may, I would like to start again.

I hope to achieve a blog which holds my memories, experiences thoughts and feelings, for me to look back on throughout my life and to create an online journal for my friends and family too check in to, and see what I am up to. As I have recently moved in with the boyf (Si) I am using this as a platform to document our lifes together.
I hope to look back, and see that I have made the most of life (remember you only get one) and to take every opportunity given, and most importantly to have fun, and don’t let anything trouble you.

Let's see how long this lasts then...

Super Healthy Salmon Burgers

So this recipe is super duper easy, and really doesn’t take much time at all. As yesterday turned into such a beautiful sunny day, I had to cook something fresh and summery to enjoy probably one of the last times in the garden of an evening. We have only recently finished our decking, so we haven’t had many chances to east al fresco.

So this dish will take roughly 10 minutes to prepare and 10-15 to cook.

You will need-

Frying pan

Cooking pot

Blender (handheld will do)

Ingredients (for 2 people) obviously alter for more people

2 salmon fillets

2 tsp Red Thai curry paste

Ginger (1/2 thumb size)

1 tsp Soy sauce

Half a bunch of coriander (or jar herbs if unavailable)

Rice to serve

Salad

1 Cucumber

2 Carrot

2 tsp White wine vinegar

To start prepare all your ingredients before starting to cook. Also prepare your salad by using a potato peeler on the carrot and cucumber, and then add your white wine vinegar. Easy.

So here we go...

1. Tip the salmon, paste, ginger, soy and coriander into the blender (if you don’t have a blender, like me. I used a handheld blender and mixed in a bowl)

2. Pulse until roughly mixed. (I know this picture isn’t the most attractive picture, but trust me, it will taste good)

3. Now put the rice on, and tip out the mix and make 2 burgers. Put the spring rolls in the oven

4. Fry the burgers for 4-5 minutes on each side

5. Your dinner is now done. Serve all together with some Thai sweet chilli sauce on the side if you fancy

So last night my sweet tooth kicked in, and I had a massive craving for cake mixture. I know not everyone likes this, but if you haven’t tried it before, YOU HAVE TO! It is truly amazing.

So, whilst I was licking the bowl I thought I may as well make some cupcakes with vanilla frosting (YUM)

I didn't have time to photograph the whole process, but when I do I will post the cake and frosting recipe. You will never look back.

I got the call on Wednesday. ‘We would like to invite you to audition for Total Wipeout this Saturday, can you make it?’ I eeeked a little inside, and said ‘of course’
2 weeks earlier I had sent a rushed application off, never thinking it would be good enough. Now if you don’t know what Total Wipeout is, it is the very popular BBC programme, where the contestants compete in a series of assault course challenges, one including 3 big red balls (I’m sure you get it now )

So here is how my day went...

My alarm didn’t go off, I missed my train, I forgot my camera and trainers, I rushed around London, I queued for an hour at the audition, sold myself for 1 minute to a lady dressed as a cheerleader, to be told NO straightaway, I sat outside the History museum, eating an egg sarnie from Marks on my own and left in total limbo. So I was on a massive comedown. What a waste of a morning. But at least I got to go see one of my bestest, Lauren, in her lovely new home in Clapham. I am so gutted I forgot my camera, so all I have for evidence is eating the best scrambled eggs in a local restaurant called Brew (it’s a must) and chatting all afternoon/evening with a few glasses of wine. Perfect. (To also mention, my good friend Kat joined us for the afternoon catch up J )

My Sunday was more chilled out, with a family lunch, gardening and a cheeky takeaway. Not forgetting getting the fright of my life when a frog jumped out on me. Pictures below

Notting Hill Carnival: vintage

So last month 3 great friends and I made the journey up to London to check out the Worlds famous Notting Hill Carnival. We indulged in Caribbean food (jerk chicken with rice and peas) and enjoyed a few cheeky ciders. We strolled around the streets taking in the array of different people there, even little kids bopping away with their parents. We stumbled across Portobello Road, and soon found ourselves back where we started, having not even covered a quarter of the festival. I'm glad I have now been to say I have been there, but I don't think I will be rushing back anytime soon. Did anyone else go? What did you think?
